FAQ on Slides and Negative

1. What size are your standard scans?
We generally scan slides and negatives at 1800 dpi which creates file sizes around 1.8MB (roughly
equivalent to a photo from a 5 mega-pixel camera). That’s big enough to print enlargements to A3 size!
 
2. Why are your scans larger than others?
We believe that technology is changing rapidly and that it is important to allow for these changes. High resolutions today might not be so high even in the near future. High definition TVs are fast becoming become the standard and we don’t want you to have to scan your slides again!

 
3. Can you scan at even larger sizes?
Cherished Moments can scan Slides and Negatives using a variety of resolutions, 2600dpi or 3600dpi for slides and negatives however should you need a large resolution we can do up to 7200dpi. There are extra charges to scan at the higher resolutions.

4. Do you save the files as JPEG or TIFF?
We usually save the photos as high quality JPEG files which are compatible with all software. We can also save photos as TIFF files on request.

How many photos will fit on a CD or one DVD?
Around 250 JPEG photos or 35 TIFF photos will fit on one CD and around 1200 JPEG photos or 200 TIFF photos will fit on one DVD. The only difference between a CD of photos and a DVD of photos is the quantity that each can hold.

6. Can I view the photos on my TV?
Most DVD players will play a CD or DVD of photos. You can flick through the images by using the remote control. If your DVD player won’t do this we can also provide you with a DVD slideshow using your new digital images which will definitely work, and is nice to share with other when presenting to a group or other family members.

7. How long will the slide scanning take?
We will usually complete small orders (under 700 photos) within 14 to 21 days of receiving your order, as each of your images are individually assessed for markings and damage. The timeframe can depending on the size of your order and the volume of work that we already have. For larger orders you can contact us for an estimated time frame.

Is there any preparation that I need to do?
 If you would like to have the photos in a certain order please sort them into this order. Otherwise the images will just be numbered as 001, 002, etc.

9. Will my old slides be worth scanning?
We can get great results from old slides and negatives. For those originals that may hold dust or minor markings we use specialised dust and scratch removal software as well as enhance the colour of your image.

Will you look after my valuable slides
?
We realise how important your memories are to you. We take the utmost care to ensure the safety of your originals

11. What will the postage be on my order?
Mail order is welcome for those outside of Canberra and Queanbeyan - Cherished Moments only uses registered Australia post, to ensure that you receive your originals in the condition that they were received. Express Post is also available for urgent orders. On competion of your order, you will be advised of the delivery fee to return your order along with the originals.  You can normally expect the return delivery fee to be approximately $10.00, slightly more for Express post.

12. Is my order safe in the mail?
All postage is returned by mail that can be tracked through Australia Post. Cherished Moments uses Registered post, so that their is someone that must sign for the goods on recieving them. It is also very easy to track the item via Australia Post. We realise how important your memories are to you. We take the utmost care to ensure the safety of your originals at all times while in our care.

13. Can I arrange a courier to bring my slides to you?
 Yes, please contact us for our street address if you would like to drop off or send your order by courier.

Will you pick the slides up in the local area?
We offer our clients in all suburbs of Canberra and Queanbeyan a free pick up and drop of service, for Slides and Negatives. We understand that some of our clients may be hesitate to have someone else deliver their originals. Please contact us to arrange this.
